Sunsets

Sunday Feature - Another Place, Another Time
These days I wouldn't usually go out of my way to photgraph a sunset.
But 40 years ago I probably had delusions of some sort of artistic sensibility.
Even though it's fuzzy it didn't turn out too bad, if you stand way back, and squint.

Cheap Shot

Everyone oooos and awwws at a vibrant sunset shot.
Maybe that's why I'm not a big fan.

East Van

The East Van sign was a secondary consideration when I happened on this sunset a few nights ago.

Playing In Traffic

If I suddenly disappear from the blogosphere it will be safe to assume I've been run over while standing in the middle of the road.

Lazy Bones

I've got a cold so I'm more lazy than usual. Fortunately I only had to walk on to the balcony for this shot.

Sunset

Anticipating complaints on the recent paucity of freighter photos I'm acting pre-emptively.

I don't get to Jericho Beach too often, even less often at sunset.

Yesterday I had to run an errand a few blocks away and made a short detour.

Lighthouse

A few weeks ago I was visiting friends in West Van and on my way I took a detour into Lighthouse Park. It's a fairly energetic hike out to the light and since I huffed and puffed my way there and back I'm using the photo no matter how so-so it might be. I was hoping for a more dramatic sunset, however I didn't want to hang around too long and have to try to find my way out in the dark.

This is the Point Atkinson Light near the entrance to English Bay. The point of land across the bay is Point Grey and on the tip of that point is UBC.

When we were kids our granddad was sometimes able to finagle his way into this place or that. Somehow he knew the light keepers here and got my brothers and I in for an up-close tour. We climbed up to the the light and stood outside on the deck. And got to pump the hand-powered foghorn (used in case of a power outage).

Reflected Sunset

From my balcony, I didn't even have to put my shoes on.

That didn't last long. I hope I've got a handle on this blogging thing and that in future I'll run it rather than have it running me.

Without the encouragement I have received from several people I would not be taking another stab at this. Thank you all. The prospect of being nagged into submission by Virginia couldn't be entirely disregarded either.

I've changed the name and plan to post occasional rather than daily photos. I'll stay with CDP until they figure out that I'm not posting often enough and give me the boot.

I'm on a train trip to Toronto but I'll be checking in whenever I have internet access. Back 12/16/08
