Montreal has done a great job of making the riverfront accessible around Old Montreal. The lighting on this grain elevator wouldn't have any practical purpose, it's just a nice touch.

I always seem to have to make do with photographing the grain elevators from less than ideal vantage points. The time of day isn't ideal either but that I do have control over.

New Brighton

On Tuesday I trekked down to New Brighton Park, a spot I haven't been in decades. My family always lived in East Vancouver and my parents took us to the park once or twice when I was quite young. We knew the park then as Windermere Pool as there is a swimming pool here.

This is an odd park in as much as it is not in or even very close to any residential areas. In fact it's bounded by various port facilities, the rail lines and Burrard Inlet. My suspicion is that many Vancouverites don't know where it is and would have some difficulty finding it if they were pointed in the right direction. 

The views from the park are quite spectacular and I'll show one or two more images from there this week.

Elevators

Canada grows wheat and Vancouver ships some of it overseas. There are several grain elevators in the port. This one is on the south side of Burrard Inlet not far from downtown.

I took this shot from the street. One day I'll try to get closer to this one or one of the others.

I doubt I'd be quite as fascinated with grain elevators if it were not for a photo of a Vancouver elevator taken many years ago by John Vanderpant. The photo is titled Tracks but I've been unable to find an image online. This is an example of his style.
