Gourmet Anything

Mom's Grilled Cheese
After lifetimes of no street food for sale in Vancouver things have changed.
At first it was hot dogs and the mysterious 'tube steak' (as if hot dogs were't mysterious enough).
Now, you name it and there's a truck, trailer or cart, that sells it.

You couldn't ...

… pay me enough to herd a crew like this around.
But they look sharp in their red hats a blue shirts.

What's the plural ...

… of Prius?

Vancouver is famous …

… for two things.
Cherry blossoms and unaffordable real estate.
I don't know the cost of these condos but whatever it is it's too much.

Diamonds Are ….. Expensive

In some circles it must have been a big day when Tiffany and Co. pitched their tent in Vancouver. I don't travel in those circles.

I'd probably be arrested on suspicion if I set foot in the place.

There are at least two sets of doors like this. I've looked after buildings most of my working life and all I think when I look at this is 'how much did these doors cost and who made them?'

Middle of the Road

Traffic on Granville is quite light while construction is under way.

I managed to stand in the road for a couple of minutes and live to tell the story.

Snappy Dresser

I had trouble staying far enough in front of this lady to get a picture.
She was very spritely.

Park Place

The taller building is Park Place, the reflection is Bentall V. The building offering the reflection is your average, run of the mill, downtown office building on Dunsmuir St.

The window cleaner may not have been immediately obvious in the larger shot.

Royal Sweet Diamond

It's Public Art Saturday.

Joe Fafard is pretty famous in Canada but I'm not sure how well he is known elsewhere. There is a really nice installation of his work in Toronto called the pasture

The Chocolate Lab got pretty excited about this statue and jumped up against it at one point.

Whether there is anything more than coincidence to the fact that this piece was purchased installed by the late Jack Diamond I do not know.

I'm working on the Civic Election today so it's out before dawn and home about 9:00 p.m. I must have had a moment of weakness when I signed up for this.

Heads In The Clouds

The idea was to get a shot of the banners on Georgia St. to add to my archives for possible future use.

However, I noticed that the, yet unfinished, Shangri-La at 61 floors tall, was shrouded in cloud. Since condos in Shangri-La are 'up there' in more ways than one I found this more than a little amusing. Our TV news recently reported that a local gangster, shot dead by other gangsters, had paid $5,000.000.00 for a condo in the Shangri-La. The top floor penthouse reputedly sold for $17,000,000.00. I wonder how many days each year there will be no view to view.

I don't see the attraction, there are numerous addresses in Vancouver, on the water or otherwise, with awesome views which wouldn't require a 61 floor elevator ride just to pick up a newspaper. I know if I lived on the top floor I'd get to the lobby and remember I'd forgotten my wallet, a lot.

I think what's held me back all these years is the fact that I've never learned to think like a billionaire. Or a gangster.
