It's been raining torrents lately but Friday was lovely.

The Same Old Scenery

What more could anyone ask for?

The High Life

The 150' yacht 'After Eight' is registered in the Isle of Man where it was built. 

There is scuttlebutt on the 'net as to who the owner is but I can't tell whether any of it is factual.

So Close

I wouldn't really expect to see a scene like this so close to the big city.

But this is a 15 or 20 minute drive from my place.

Built in 1938 this boat is very much like the water taxis which ran between Horseshoe Bay and 
Bowen Island when I was a kid.

The Master ...

… is the last remaining steam tug on the west coast.

The tug is operated and maintained by the S.S. Master Society of volunteers.

During the winter the Master ties up on the Fraser River near the Oak Street Bridge. In the summer she is usually tied up in the Heritage Harbour at Vanier Park.

Everyone in B.C. knows who Jim Pattison is.

This is his boat.

The Fleet Is In

All the CANFISCO boats are tied up. From this I'm able to deduce that it isn't fishing season.

Scuttlebutt has it that there's a waiting list for boat sheds at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.

Live Aboard

Life on a houseboat seems idyllic, in theory at least.

Signs Of Summer

A lifeguard installs buoys to mark out the swimming area at Spanish Banks.

The banks run out a long way. Even at high tide it's possible to wade out perhaps 1/4 mile.
