Colder than a.........

witch's t.., no strike that, I want to keep my G rating. Let's say it was colder than a well digger's belt buckle.

I'm in Ottawa, Canada's capitol, for two days. These are just your garden variety travel snaps but I thought they might be interesting to some who haven't had the opportunity to visit. Or visit in winter (technically winter isn't for another week or so).

Ottawa has been a favourite city of mine since I first visited here a long time ago. It surprises me that no one living here is doing a CDPB. It would be a fabulous addition.

Parliamentary Library

A grainy, handheld shot of the centre block on Parliament Hill. There is a light show display for the holidays. I took dozens of shots but....., here come the excuses, a) I didn't have a tripod. b) it was dark. c) it was -13ÂșC and I couldn't work the camera very well with gloves on. d) if I took the gloves off my fingers didn't work very well. I think that about covers it. My poor little camera was like a block of ice by the time I got back to the hotel.

A grainy snapshot of the Peace Tower. See above for excuses.

I'm away from home until Dec. 16. The next few days will have boring old holiday snaps from Ottawa, Toronto or somewhere between them and Vancouver.

enjoy your holiday - someone did start an Ottawa blog in January but it petered out in September.

Gerald, thanks, I noticed that there had been one. It's too bad it didn't last, it's an extremely picturesque city.

I love the photos from Ottawa. I've never been there and I see there some very nice things to see. It looks cold!!!

I've never seen a photo of the Library, it's absolutely beautiful! I think the snow even makes the building look more fantastic!

Have a nice time out there, even with all the cold... :-)

These are anything but boring, you big goof. I can't believe you braved frostbite to bring us these cool (or should I say COLD!) pictures. I love those snowflake lights. I'm such a wuss -- born and raised in Texas and living in Los Angeles for 20 years. I consider the mid 50s (Farenheit for us backward non metrics) to be cold enough to call for hot toddies and warm boots. Pics like these seem like another planet. I love the way the snow sparkles.

Thanks for taking us along on your trip, W!

Will you stop apologising for boring shots, because they certainly aren't. You know I am the law in these things. That top shot has a very Moscow vibe.

Grinch,
I am humming the theme from "Dr. Zhivago" and feeling so warm and fuzzy that I will accept everyone of your excuses as long as they include sub zero weather and snow. Don't you just hate it? Are you having fun? Behaving? Do you really, really, REALLY miss us now? WHEN will you be home? What did you bring me, huh? huh? huh????
CLW (who was not more that two)

Thanks for your kind comments you guys.

JM, the library and the other buildings on The Hill had a multi-million dollar refurbishment just recently. Everything looks great.

Laurie, Babs, the apologizing thing is a character trait. I'll try to work on it.

Sharon, you'll get a real real bang for your buck in Canada these days. Our dollar costs about 80 cents US.

CLW, (has everyone figured out what this stands for?) I head to TO tomorrow and catch The Canadian at 2230 arriving in Vancouver on Tuesday. I may be bringing you back a case of the sniffles. I'm behaving.

No need to apologize at all--these pictures are beautiful!

The Parliament Library is an awesome building! It looks more like a cathedral than a library. Thanks for braving frostbite for us — the light show on that other awesome parliament building is fabulous! Hope your camera's warm and cozy again.
