Granville Island

I'm finding myself suddenly scrambling to come up with subjects. Yesterday I headed to Granville Island to try to remedy the predicament. For a few days I'll post some of the pictures I took there. Unless, of course, I come up with something I'm happier with.

Granville Island was originally a strictly industrial area. It's only an island because there is a very narrow creek separating it from the rest of Vancouver. I remember making deliveries to Granville Island back in the late 60's. Specifically I remember a company that made chains, big chains, used for logging and such. There is still some light industry left and a concrete plant.

I'll try to fill in a few more facts along the way.

My wife and I have always enjoyed our visits to Granville. There's certainly nothing like its market out here in mid-America. I have a strong memory of my son, around age 10, chasing the pigeons on that patio on the north side of the market, popping open a small umbrella over and over to scare them off. That got him a good dressing down from a local old biddy. I told him later I didn't see it as a problem.

Ooh, ooh, I've been there too! I'll look forward to seeing if I remember the bits you show.

Love the fog-shrouded buildings in the small pic. Makes me want some hot cocoa.

The fog makes things look special.

I love Granville Island, the market, the glass blowing workshop, the many little shops and The keg where I took OH to celebrate his B'day in Aug '07.

When in Vancouver we always stay in the Westend and use the little ferry boats to cross to Granville Island to buy supplies. Great place and I look forward to seeing more pics.
