Granville Street Bridge

This would not be the view most people crossing the bridge would photograph first.  The view to the right would take in much more of the mountains.

It looks like an STS (standard tourist shot) except that relatively few tourists would walk across this bridge. The map reader from yesterday is a fluke. You'll just have to take my word for it. This shot is from last week. We've had all kinds of weather since then.

I was going to go into a long harangue about all the expensive white plastic yacht-ettes bobbing at the dock 49 or 50 weeks of the year and how the sum total of that investment applied usefully could probably eliminate world poverty. I opted for a short harangue instead.

The yellow building is Bridges restaurant and pub, a fixture on Granville Island for, approximately, ever. The owner of Bridges doesn't have to settle for a yacht-ette.

Love that yellow of Bridges! We'd probably walk on the bridge, we're not your usual tourists and go where other tourits wouldn't :)

I concur with your harangue about using that wealth better.

It is a cool shot of all the yachtettes, though.

Well you can tell Mr. Bridges that I appreciate what he is doing for the economy of your fair city, but that bright yellow building of his "sticks out like a sore thumb" on that lovely landscape of mountains, water and yacht-ettes. My mini harangue of the day. Ahh , I feel better.

Lot of yachts there, that genarally means a lot of money. Is that the case here?

I work with someone that uses their boat as a floating cottage. Rarely sailing it but going up to it every weekend and holiday.

Mo this is a tiny sampling of the, mostly pleasure, water craft parked all over Vancouver.

Some people get lots of use out of their boats but most of them never move from one month to the next.

The amount of money tied up here and whose money it is is the $64.000.00 question. My gut feeling is that any number of these boats are corporate write-offs. I could go to marinas like this on the sunniest weekend in August and most boats would still be tied to the dock.

Virginia, I'm glad you feel better. It isn't in my best interest to have you stressed out.

I like the bright yellow restaurant. I think someone should buy a bright yellow yacht and moor it among all the others - just to annoy everyone ;-)

I like Jenny's train of thought. How about shocking pink with orange sails?

t's much more picturesque than my harbour and marina. Even the sea here is a gorgeous blue.

Nice short harangue. This is the internet - long harangues won't do. Nobody has an attention span for more than about 1 or 2 paragraphs of text at one time. Nice shot of the city too with less mountains. We all know they're there after all and they do tend to hog the attention.

Very nice view:)

I use bright yellow cylindrical thingy's to attract and trap yellow jackets. Works quite successfully. Very nice photo Wayne. How empty would it be without all those baby yachts!

Ah, conspicuous consumption. Ain't it grand? Love the yellow of Bridges!

You saw that post of mine — and Manila has a yacht club, SUVs fill our narrow streets, and the wealthiest of the wealthy have homes all over the country and even all over the world. There's no one to blame but ourselves. =(

That said, I think the view's fantastic! And Bridges looks like a great place to see what's going on with those yacht-ettes.
