Stanley

The Stanley
When I was a kid the Stanley was a Famous Players movie house.
I must have seen lots of movies there over the years.
The only one I recall specifically is Apocalypse Now.
Dolby Surround Sound would have been the latest rage at the time.
The sound of helicopters moving from the back of the theatre to the front was downright startling.
And apparently memorable.
The Stanley is a live theatre now.

Stanley

The Stanley is an Art Deco theatre in the Moorish style. Built as a cinema, it operated from 1930 to the early 90s. After sitting empty for some time it was purchased through a fund raising campaign.

The cinema was renovated to become the third live theatre venue for the Arts Club in 1998.

The neon maple leaf was the logo of the cinema chain which ran the theatre for many years, Famous Players.

Photographing neon is a bit of tricky business. Next time I'll take my tripod.
