Gourmet Anything

Mom's Grilled Cheese
After lifetimes of no street food for sale in Vancouver things have changed.
At first it was hot dogs and the mysterious 'tube steak' (as if hot dogs were't mysterious enough).
Now, you name it and there's a truck, trailer or cart, that sells it.

Nice picture with also nice reflections in the buildings.Does he has to pay a parking fee or is it just hit and go.

s.c. these trucks, etc. are all licensed. They actually have to compete for permits. I think the spots for them to set up are assigned and parking fees would be factored in to the permit

He's got a great spot catering to the constant stream of protesters in front of the Art Gallery. Grilled cheese is probably all most of them can afford.

Paul. I glimpsed their menu. Sandwiches were around $8.00!

I find this all very odd. I wouldn't pay $8.00 for a grilled cheese sandwich in a sit-down restaurant, let alone a carry out place.

Putting 'gourmet' in front of something is a bit like labelling products 'organic'. It's like a license to charge more.

I'm in favour of organic but some places exploit the concept.

Grilled cheese seems to be the new upcoming fad here with all kinds of exotic expensive cheeses - not Kraft slices like when we were kids!

Too true Pat. I know of at least one other street vendor specializing in grilled cheese.

Between Kraft Slices Kraft, Dinner and Cheez Whiz Kraft was the king of 'cheese-like products. Maybe they still are.
