Amazon Killed The Video Store

_DSC2093
(or iTunes or whatever)
I took this back in December.
By now I expect everything is gone.

The culture of putting a commercial text on a t-shirt is really an invention of your part of the world and not sold out so I see. Pity that things changes but still a great picture.

Video stores are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. In my local mall there is a glimmer of hope. HMV is still in business.

... and Virgin Records before them, in the same location.

It will be interesting to see what sort of business tries to make a go of it there.

Formerly Vancouver's Main Library, it's a big building. Some of the building is a TV studio but it's still a very large retail space.

I really like to buy locally...but recently I bought two books from our local book store (Lightroom FAQ's and Classroom in a Book by Adobe) Turns out the books were almost $20 more per book at the book store!!! Now, granted this is a small book store in a small, rural town, but I paid almost $40 dollars more for them there than if I had bought them on Amazon. I will occasionally buy paperbacks there to read...but I'm afraid that for my camera/computer/software library, it's Amazon for me!!!

It broke my heart when Borders went kerplunk...I loved the one in Long Beach, but when I moved to Glendale, the local ones there just never measured up. I get why it went out of business...

The HMV here on Queen St is still there but who knows for how long?

i like this pic!
yes, many stores in downtown boston are closing/ are closed (the bookstore, cdstore, filenes basement and what not).
i always feel bad for those people having to stand outside with those advertisements. yesterday it was raining so terribly hard, you couldnt see anything, and there was someone just like you pictured above...

Certainly a sign of our times. We used to have about 6 independent CD retailers (not to mention a couple of chain stores) in the city about 3-4 years ago, now we have 2 left!
