One by one 4 Bentall towers were built on the 500 block of Burrard St.
Bentall I was built in 1967, the year I left high school.
Bentall V, across Burrard St. was completed in two stages, A 23 floor tower was built in 2002. In 2007 an additional 11 floors were plopped on top. The lower floors were fully occupied during the second phase.

The buildings make me think of Barney Bentall, and when I hear Barney Bentall I think of the building (only the first one). Are they really all called Benall Buildings. Bentall V has a big Bell sign on top so wouldn't it be considered as the Bell tower?
We graduated from high school in the same year.

Number V looks like a giant piece of glass was wrapped around! Very cool but I can't figure out how they added on like that.

All the towers have 'anchor tenants' but they all go by one, two, three, etc.

Oh, I finished high school in '67.
I graduated more on (or moron) a technicality rather than because I'd learned all the stuff they tried to teach me. Unlike most people, who have fond memories of high school, I never missed the place from the moment I left. :-)

Oooooh!!!! Love that top shot!!! That's my kind of architectural shot!!! Did anyone approach you because you were taking a picture of a tall building? When I was shooting pics like this one in Denver, Colorado...a security guard came up to me and told me I couldn't shoot the pics...apparently I was in the courtyard which was on their property so they could do that, if you're on public property here, you can take the shots!!!

It doesn't happen too often Kathryn. When it does I usually argue with them and tell them where to go and how to get there. :-)

You tell, em, Wayne. Thomas Hawk of Flickr fame sometimes pretends to be listening to music through his earbuds and ignores security as long as he can, sometimes he pretends not to understand english and plays dumb, all the time he keeps his eye on them and makes stealth shots as long as he can until they approach. He's a very bad boy. I'm respectful of shop owners and the like and will usually ask indoors and not assume. Other times I shoot away and if someone in a uniform approaches I just say of course. When I'm outdoors, I make sure I'm on public property. When the rules are "made up on the spot" by some smart a** guard I may appear to comply with his curt demands, but will return and shoot away at another time. If they are respectful when they approach me I comply and don't push it. I had a member of a native American community tell me I shouldn't photograph a cemetery on a reservation because in his culture that meant calling down more death. But when I saw other photographers (natives themselves) shooting away, I didn't feel bad at all for keeping the shots I'd taken.
