Botany

I messed around with the macro on my camera on a trail in Pacific Spirit Park. I haven't got a clue what this is, for all I know it's a weed.

No sir, Mr. Wayne. What you've captured so beautifully is a genuine Bleeding Heart, a heart-shaped wild flower that lifts its skirts to dance up and down the northern west coast, usually about a month earlier than it is appearing this year. I have a few volunteers, along with a few Columbines that like a certain shady part of the garden. I think my friends brought the seeds home from a hike and planted them here.

I figured someone would know what it is. But at 2:30 a.m. Kim?

Bleeding Heart. How perfect! :) I'm impressed with your new found macro skills W. Nice depth of field you got there. What are you doing up so early yourself??

Lovely photo! It's a cultivated garden plant in the UK rather than a wild flower - Latin name Dicentra spectabilis - and is supposed to have originated in China. As well as Bleeding Heart, it's also called Dutchman's Britches or Dutchman's Trousers and you can buy a pure white variety.
