In a perfect world I'd go back here when the weather was more favourable and try for a better picture. And, in a perfect world this building never would have been built. There is a lesson in there somewhere but I'm damned if I can figure out what it is.
Vancouver puts a lot of effort into maintaining what the planners call 'view corridors' in order that we can continue to see the water and mountains while the city grows, constructing more and more buildings so there is someplace to put everyone.
Back in the early '6os I doubt much thought was given to maintaining the view as it probably didn't seem to be in jeopardy. So buildings like this were built creating a huge wall and blocking the view to the north for anyone unlucky enough to find themselves directly south of it.
It's not the worst offender in terms of blocking views but this building on Chestnut Street in Kitsilano could never get a permit today. The good citizens of Vancouver would have a conniption if it did.

interesting post today W. What I want to see is what building is blocking view wise? I sure hope it's not blocking those gorgeous snow capped mountains. Maybe you can run up that hilll and take a shot of that for us one day?
It is indeed an unfortunate building in the wrong place and am happy for the view corridors.
And interesting thought -- that back then nature seemed limitless

I'm glad that it is just one building, once they get going sometimes, it becomes a wall of construction.
Yeah... that's a bummer of a building all right. But your shot makes it look mysterious and cool.
