My wife and I saw Paris Stree, Rainy Day this summer at Fort Worth. About 70 of Chicago's painting were on loan. We bought a small copy to hang in our home.
I used to always buy black brollies, thinking it would look better (it wouldn't clash with anything I was wearing). But it's miserable enough with grey skies and all that rain without having to look at it from beneath a ceiling of black. So now I try to buy coloured or patterned ones, and it does make the grey weather marginally more bearable.
Walker, I've seen the painting in Chicago, it's much, much bigger than people likely realize from only seeing it in pictures. It used to be the first thing visitors saw even before they bought their tickets at the AIC but that was several years ago.
Sharon, I don't really know where the term originated but I've heard it since I was kid. Seattle has a Bumbershoot Festival every year which sounds like a great event.
Nice series, Wayne, but why lie about the hat? Next you'll be telling us you don't have webbing between your toes like other long-time Vancouver residents.

Nice one, even though I didn't get to put my stamp of approval on it. You saved the day by including Paris Street, Raint Day!!!

Oh my, you just brought back many memories. My dad and grandfather always called umbrells "bumbershoots".
Jackie, Good for you. Vancouver is very drab in the rain and it needs all the colour injection it can get. I imagine Glasgow is the same.
V. It's not a man thing, it's a me thing.

Benjamin, That was a youthful folly from decades ago that I've been trying to put behind me.
Thanks for taking time out from counting crocuses to stop by.
I have a print of Paris Street, Rainy Day hanging in my house. I love that painting!
And I agree: umbrellas should be colorful!
