You've Got Mail

I haven't been in the Box Lobby of the Main Post Office for years.

Part of the fun of doing a CDP blog is the increased instances of silly and strange things that seem to happen. Maybe it's just me.

To the best of my knowledge this section of the building has remained as you see it for the past 53 years. It's stylish, to my eye, and I thought I might get a decent photo. It is not a busy place this time of day, there were very few people about. While I was goofing around trying to take pictures this chap wearing a metallic coloured ski jacket came to get his mail. This is the only shot I have with him in it and I wish I had thought to ask him to stay put while I took a couple more. I don't think he would have minded.

It happens to me often that I will look at something interesting, I move on or the subject moves on and then I think, I should have taken a picture of that.

One day soon there will be a post featuring the outside of the post office, I'm running low on pics.

Wayne, now that's not fair. I give you girl in bikini and I get guy in silver anorak's posterior.
Neat post office though. I love those marble floors.

The metalic corner is amazing and the guy was dressed to match! :-) I like this photo and also the previous 'Jaws'.

I love this shot. The composition is amazing -- and it's just too great that the matching guy is bending over!

What a great post office.

'56 or '57? You poor guy. Somebody needs to give you some flowers! :)

The metallic jacket works very well with the metal of the boxes. Very nice.

You're right ... the more you're out there with your camera "looking" the more frequently serendipity knocks. I think it's like buying lottery tickets. No ticket (camera) no play (being out there) no winning.

Many times in the past, when on vacation for instance, I would see something that sparked my interest while traveling along and think, I should take a photo of that but then continue on down the highway.

Later I would think about the photo I missed. Since retiring I now go back for the shot. Even if it doesn't turn out at least it gives me peace of mind!! :-)

And yes, the metallic theme in your photo is very nice. thanks

Very nice. I'm curious, did you use a tripod or is this hand-held?

My goodness, how many boxes are there?! Don't answer - I know it's a lot. You wouldn't have done better waiting for a second shot. This works just fabulously.

I keep getting the feeling it's some sort of art installation. Our post boxes are always black.

Thanks! You've given me inspiration for another dozen photos!

So now you have deserted cleavage for derrieres???? Good thing that wasn't my backside or you would be facing a lawsuit-HA Just stopped to see if you were behaving. Just as I thought.

Hmmm...that happens to you too, huh?

Angela, what's not fair about that?

I didn't use a tripod but for some of these shots I used a tall table to rest the camera. If it looks blurry I didn't use the table. If it doesn't look blurry I definitely used the table.

Jilly, this is about half of the boxes.

V. I'm behaving. Ask anyone. I knew you'd be checking up on me.

Thanks for all your comments. I thought this shot worked out ok. And Chuck's right, the ski jacket was serendipitous.

There are many many things that could be said about this that are better left unsaid. The photo itself is very nice. As for the psychological implications, I believe I have recently heard the term "warped" being used. The word verification for this comment is "slize"

Don't worry about the pose! The color, composition and texture are so unusual and so good that we don't need anyting else.

All that silver is fantastic! The different shades of lighting really bring it all out.

Gee, that is one big post office! I never had a post office box, but have always been attracted by them...somehow it's more exciting to go get your mail that way!

What luck to get this photo! And how many post boxes! Speaking from a nation that still has house deliveries, this is a very different sight. One of the joys of Daily Photo.
