Spic And Span

Most Calcutta sights were closed on Sunday but the Victoria Memorial Hall was open.
Several fellows were busy scrubbing the stonework at the entrance.
They would lower buckets on ropes from the bridge and scoop up the water.

An amazing city! That's a pretty labor intensive way to clean the stonework.

Scrubbing the stone will keep it clean, but it might also wear away the surface and damage the wall. Interesting photo.
