Powell St.

West On Powell
On this afternoon you could have fired a cannon down Powell and not hit anyone.
Probably.

Powell St. at Jackson Ave.

I assume that the yellow sign means don't cross the street running or does it mean watch out soccer playing kids suddenly on the street. Strange to see the two above each other.

The top sign indicates there is a playground nearby (across the street in this case). The bottom sign indicates this is a pedestrian crosswalk.

I have heard of Payless Shoes, but not Payless Meats.
But then, those walking and playing people on the signs don't have feet, so I guess meat would be more important than shoes.

Pretty close to the spot Mr.Herzog took his well known shot way back when. Thanks for this view Wayne as I used to live just down at the far end of the photo in a building that I see from Google maps is not there any more. Payless Meats is still going I see. Shopped in there many a time back in the 70's. Life in that area was good for me as an art student back then with cheap studio rent and good food in the local restaurants.
