Sunday Feature - Another Place, Another Time
Of the buildings I've managed to see in person none has made a greater impact on me than the Potala Palace.
These days I understand the Chinese government sells 2300 tickets a day for entry but when I was there entry wasn't permitted (or I was talking to the wrong people).
I'm not sure I'd want to tromp through with 2299 other gawkers today.
I read Heinrich Harrer's 'Seven Years In Tibet' long before I visited but I can't say how much influence the book had on my deciding to travel there.
Lhasa, Tibet, 1986

I've heard about this book for years and guess I'll definitely have to read it now. Lots of bikes in this photo...must be a common form of transportation. The palace is indeed huge!
I guess this is one of the oldies that you scanned? Great photo, I really like the colors. And I have never heard of this Potala Palace before, it sure does look impressive.
Looks like a fascinating place...
I'm enjoying your retro scans Wayne!!!
Wow! For the pic and the palace.
I remember you sharing this wondrous place with me when you were scanning your slides. Lucky you to be able to discover such wonderful places while you were young enough to remember them!
