When I was a kid I skated on Lost Lagoon.
It didn't freeze every winter but it was a big deal when it did.
The last time the ice was thick enough to skate on was at least 10 years ago.

At least they post warn signs. Here on Frenchman's Bay there are no signs but there are plenty of dumb people that wander onto the ice that looks as safe as the ice in your photo.
When the authorities can remove the sign its danger free I guess.
That's one of the reasons I like the coast - I'll forgo skating for the warmer temperatures!
Winter isn't the same as it used to be!
so it's basically like hell freezing over?

This gives new meaning to the phrase, "Slick as ice."
In Yosemite, everybody was skating on Lake Tenaya...despite the warning signs! As a matter of fact...a friend of mine was up there taking photos and watching numerous people pick up the "don't go on the ice" signs, take them out onto the ice and get their photos taken with the sign!!! The ice there was really thick and quite safe...as much as iced over lakes can be!
Anyone from this area would be crazy to try to skate on a pond. Great photo!
