CUBAN __ARS

_DSC8371
A 'not so cheery' winter afternoon in Gastown.
It's not raining these days but stay tuned, there's snow in the forecast.

Nice capture of another rainy day on Canada's west coast. The sign on the store tells me we have one more thing that the Americans don't have... Cuban cigars.

Why the chain. Your not allowed to cross the street or cars are not allowed to go on the pavement. It would also be nice when they sold cuban cars from the fifties. You never know what is missing.

I thought it was Cuban arse at Gassy Jack's.

Great textural shot!

Can y'all buy Cuban cigars? I quit tobacco but I might try a Cuban cigar. Can't get 'em here.

Love the shot...a little rain can make a photo zing!

Good work Karin, I was just testing to see if you were paying attention.

Lowell, I know nothing about cigars but as far as I know you can buy Cuban cigars here. This is a busy tourist area especially in summer. Thousands of cruise ship passengers pass through here each week.

s.c., the chain is more for looks than anything I think. But since the sidewalks and roads are paved similarly I guess it might help keep the cars and pedestrians where they belong.

Thanks for the comments.

Gassy Jack must've had a really hard life in high school.

Alex, I doubt Gassy Jack Deighton made it as far as high school. He was nicknamed Gassy Jack because he liked to talk and tell stories.

When Vancouver (called Granville in it's earliest days) began this was the where it started. The area is called Gastown after him.

You've done a great job finding color and life on a dreary day. I really like the elements in this shot - the stairway, the street lamp, the pedestrian blockers. The red bricks really make a great background.

add one more a to the ars for "aars", the dutch word for arse... pronunciation only slightly different!
