Up The Creek

By now my images of False Creek Ferries aren't novel.
But I have to fill this blog with something … every … single … day.

I love your blog.

What type of camera equipment do you use? I have a Nikon D90 but need some good lessons to use it fully.

Leslie, The D90 is a very good camera. The lens is the other big factor. I have a D7000 and usually use a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 lens. This pic was taken with a borrowed Nikon 80-200mm lens (which costs almost as much as my camera body).

You're not the only one who needs some lessons. I operate on the principle that if I take enough pictures some of them will turn out. There is almost no technical knowledge involved. :-)

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments.

Wayne, I have an 18-105 mm lens and a 50 mm prime which I love. At this point I am thinking of adding another but can't decide...telephoto, macro, fisheye? Vancouver Photo Workshop seems to have a good variety of classes but again...which one?

Leslie, I don't have a prime lens, a 50mm 1.4 will likely be my next investment.

I'm using a borrowed 70-200mm Nikon lens right now. Even though the optics are outstanding it's not very practical on a cropped sensor camera. My hunch is that I wouldn't get a lot of use out of a fisheye lens but I'm not very creative. I accidentally discovered that I could get a 'sort of' fisheye effect by clicking the wrong lens correction in Lightroom 'Develop'. Still not very creative. http://www.flickr.com/photos/35698624@N07/6306875473/in/set-72157628100987662

I get the VPW emails but most of the courses cost as much as a lens and that invariably puts me off. Langara is also expensive but I think I'd probably end up there if I decide to take classes.
