The Only

A few months ago this iconic 1951 sign was removed.
I saw the crew take it down but didn't expect it to be put back.
The only question now is, 'will there be a restaurant attached to it?'

The best two reasons to be in that block. The Only and Wo Fats Bakery.Almond cookies from heaven.Have you got any pics of the alley restaurants? The Orange Door,Grey Door, and Green Door. That goes back a few years so they're probably gone by now.

That's a funny name I think! Odd to see clams on the menu. Here it would be SHRIMP! Yummmm

It's a great sign, but like Virg, I don't get the name. Is it "The Only" as in the one and only, or "The Only Seafoods" as in don't bother for asking for anything other than fish, oysters, or clams.

oh I visited your beautiful city for a few days years ago and loved the downtown signage. It was super cool. Unfortunately it was before I had a camera.

Very neat sign, Wayne!

Oh for Pete's sake!

I've done my research. The owners or the owners kids are still around. It means, they 'only' serve seafood. They were famous for their clam chowder and fish and chips which is all I ever had there.

The sign went up in 1951 which makes it almost as old as me.

Looks like they did a fine job restoring the sign!

Awesome colors on that sign. Enjoying your blog and each day I'm learning a bit more of Vancouver. Thanks to you.
Bon Weekend !

So the old restaurant was closed, the sign got taken down, restored and put back, and there's still no restaurant. There must be a purpose here somewhere.
