They have a hell of a lot of sewing machines, their branch in Glasgow (which is now in the ground floor of the old Borders bookshop) is also full of them so I think they're doing the same thing with every branch. I keep meaning to take a photo, I feel dead self-conscious but I bet I'll be one of hundreds so I don't know why!
WOW!!! What a collection!!! I actually learned how to sew on one of those old Singers...with the knee pedal!!! It was a fabulous machine...my mom wouldn't let me work on her good one until I got the hang of the old one!!! Because it ran on the knee pedal, it didn't go as fast and I was less likely to sew my fingers to the cloth...or so she said!!!
Our Mom had a Singer with a knee lever too. I guess it was one of our grandparents that had a treadle machine. As kids we thought that was a great play thing.
I think my grandmother had one with the treadle...I'd forgotten that! I had the iron base with treadle for years that I put a top on and used as a table!!! Wish I still had that one!!!

Wow! What a collection. My wife still has her mother's old sewing machine that's not in use.
Love that first shot and what an amazing collection of sewing machines! I wish I still had my grandmother's machine.
