Mushroom Studios Session

On Saturday some of the Carnival Band musicians teamed up with a select group of horn players to record at Mushroom Studios.

This session laid down tracks for Magnolia, a song that will be released as a single in January.

We were using child labour, Rowan is 9.

Great shots. I've tried to capture the board at Michael's recording studio and not done so well. Kudos to Rowan for hanging with the big boys. I had to enlarge the last one. I could have sworn that was a tuba.

It's a tuba case. the horn beside it is a sousaphone.

I don't know which came first, the 'One Less Guitar' sticker or the very common in Vancouver, 'One Less Car' sticker. They look very similar.

Technically , I'm NOT wrong (of course. I never am).:)

The sousaphone is a type of tuba that is widely employed in marching bands. Designed so that it fits around the body of the tubist and is supported by the left shoulder, the sousaphone may be readily played while being carried. The instrument is named after American bandmaster and composer John Philip Sousa, who popularized its use in his band.

I went to a sousaphone factory on a field trip in 2nd grade.

So are you sending us a recording for Christmas?

I can probably do better than that Karin. When it's released I can send you a 'link' to it.

No, no! Don't thank me. It's nothing, really.

Hello, Not trying to be nosey, but are you a musician or studio engineer? We are and I like meeting other artists.
My sister relocated to Portland, OR Anywhere near your neck of the woods? My geography is rather dodgy.

:)

Hi Theresa,

I'm not a musician or engineer. I'm the photographer for Vancouver's Carnival Band. Some of the band's musicians were playing on this session.

Portland is due south of Vancouver. It takes between 5 and 7 hours to drive there depending on traffic and border line ups.
