Primary Colours

Vancouver has a multitude of residential towers and an awful lot of them are of the 'green glass and steel' or 'some shade of beige' school of design.

Thankfully, some of the more recent developments have introduced elements of colour into the skyline. Not surprisingly, this one is easy to pick out from a few miles away.

Wow, Wayne! Love this photo and your angle on the colorful building. It's spectacular.
I've heard Seattle is trying to model itself on Vancouver's "urban density." The residential highrises here so far don't impress me. Some of Belltown's clusters of condos look more like a gray gulag of brutalism gone insane than a pleasant place to call home. I like this shock of color.

It's amazing what a little color adds.

I like it too. Bet when you saw that yellow you couldn't get that camera out fast enough. Nice angle as well.

Hi Wayne - are those pricey?

Debbie, I took a quick look at MLS, prices are too rich for me but they were a bit less than I thought they'd be. As far as I know RE prices are falling here like everywhere else. Prices range from $300,000 and up. 1000 sq.ft. would cost about $700,000. Maintenance fees are based on size and start about $220.00. There is no doubt there are some spectacular views from many of these units.

I have a friend who owned a small condo in a high-rise building in Vancouver for a while. He sold it about 3 years ago and then moved to Chicago. He always had photos of the great views out his window.

Oh no!

Australia has gone down this architectural route, and it's a disaster!

Every new building in Australian cities has all these childish bright shapes stuck all over the outside. It makes the place look like one big daycare centre.

You really don't want Vancouver to start looking like this. It's a fad - and an ugly one at that.
