The Firefighter

Public Art Day is back on track for better or worse.

This chainsaw sculpture is dedicated to all firefighters. It is not on the public art registry but I happened upon it walking by the VFD Training Facility.

Artist: Capt. Lance Shook
Installed: 2007

That is my kind of art. My dad was a volunteer fire fighter for 30 years. I recently met and interviewed a chain saw artist. Incredible what they can do with a chain saw.

Well it is certainly a nice tribute to firefighters.

At first I didn't notice the hose over his right hip and thigh. It looked like he is holding an SLR with a rather wide diameter lens.

I'm amazed it's a chainsaw sculpture - we have a similar sculpture in some sort of fibreglass type material (shiny black stuff), called Citizen Firefighter, in a very similar style.

Someone carved that with a chain saw? Amazing!
